Special language and literature exams, or “Specials” in both languages, are based on the following:
- Three semesters’ worth of reading from 500-level classes or the equivalent.
- In conjunction with each aforementioned class, independent preparation, in consultation with the Instructor of Record (IOR) for the class and the Director of Graduate Studies, of “supplementary materials.” For additional details, see Information on Execution.
Supplementary materials: For the Specials, supplementary materials are defined as a broad range of relevant scholarship of approximately 2-3 double-spaced pages of bibliography per semester, in addition to 25 Oxford Classical Text pages of Greek or Latin, commensurate with the difficulty of the material and the student’s level in the program, as determined by the student in consultation with the IOR.
