In Latin 305, we will first briefly review the most important concepts of Latin grammar and vocabulary via original Latin texts. We will then read selections from Ovid’s Metamorphoses in Latin.
Occasional quizzes, homework assignments, and in-class exercises will support students’increasing fluency. In order to interpret and evaluate one of Ovid’s myths, students will choose a piece of artwork to present and discuss in a group of students.
The readings of the Latin originals will accompany frequent and lively class discussions.
This Fall, I’m looking forward to making the exciting transition from ‘textbook Latin’ to authentic Latin poetry with students, reading selections from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, one of the finest pieces of Latin literature.
