What do Hephaestus, Homer, Julius Caesar, and Emperor Claudius have in common? Disability! Learn how social and cultural theories of disability can influence modern perceptions of the ancient Mediterranean. This course is a survey of representations of disability across ancient Greece and Rome. By reading literary and historical sources in translation, students will learn how ancient understandings of disability shaped depictions of some of the most famous Greek and Roman figures.
