Examines ancient Greek ideas about female roles throughout the life cycle, starting with infancy and childhood and moving to adolescence and marriage, motherhood and old age. Topics include forms of female empowerment, methods of political and social control, adultery and prostitution, ideas about the body and sexuality, and religious participation. Readings will be a combination both of primary sources and textbook. Grades will be based on three exams and a short research project.
