Examines feminist responses to Greek literature and myth from the perspective of literary interpretation, adaptation, and political thought. A variety of ancient texts will be read, from Homeric epic to Greek tragedy. These will be paired with modern works by authors such Virginia Woolf, H.D., Margaret Atwood, Anne Carson, Judith Butler, and Bonnie Honig. Assessment will consist of several short quizzes based on the assigned readings, and a final project or paper.
