Salve! Welcome! Latin 391 is an intensive introduction to the grammar and vocabulary of Classical Latin, the language of Ancient Rome. In a single semester it completes the study of two standard semesters of instruction in Elementary Latin. This course offers a comprehensive introduction to the Classical Latin language in 14 weeks, using Wheelock’s Latin (7th edition). Through a daily mixture of synchronous and asynchronous activities, students learn new grammatical concepts and morphology, practice reading and translating increasingly complex Latin texts, and complete exercises in Latin to gain an active command of the language. While its focus is primarily on written grammar and translation, the course will also touch on aspects of Roman culture, history and literature. By the end of the course, students will be able to proceed to reading Latin in the original(e.g., in Latin 305).
