3.00 credits
Level: Elementary
Breadth: Literature
Contemporary YA literature is full of reimagined stories from Greek and Roman Mythology. In this course, students will examine some of these modern retellings along with the ancient texts that underpin their characters and plots. The instructor provides pre-recorded lectures and students will analyze the texts via asynchronous discussions and written reflections. The course culminates in a final project where students may choose between writing a scholarly analysis of a YA novel of their choosing or producing their own creative writing based on an ancient myth.
This course will draw upon the following titles:
- This Poison Heart by Kaylynn Bayron
- Bone Gap by Laura Ruby
- Zeus (The Olympians, 1) by George O’Connor
- A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Marrow
