Students may apply to both scholarships but will only be awarded one.

Ruth M. Kuhlman Undergraduate Scholarship
Established in 1998 with a bequest from Myron George Kuhlman in memory of his wife, Ruth Miller Kuhlman (BS in Education ’32), this is a monetary award for undergraduates to benefit and advance their studies within the field of Classics. Total amount of award may be up to $2500 and the award may not be granted every academic year depending on quality of entries and availability of funds.
Gertrude E. Slaughter Summer Study Scholarship
A monetary award in memory of Gertrude E. Slaughter, author and widow of Professor Moses S. Slaughter (1896-1923), for undergraduate students to advance their studies at an accredited center such as the American School in Athens or the American Academy in Rome, to fund a summer school course, or to participate in a UW study abroad program or an active archaeological field project. Awards will be in the amount of up to $800.

Please describe how you intend to utilize the award, which program(s) you have applied and/or been accepted to, and how you expect the experience to advance your study within the field of Classics.
- Proposed Budget
Please include a brief overview of your potential budget for the program for which you have applied. Costs may include travel, lodging, registration, or any other associated costs of participation. If your total budget is over the maximum award amount, please indicate how you intend to fund the difference, including any other awards you are applying for.
- Unofficial Transcript
- Winners must provide proof of acceptance to their program, provide a summary of their experience upon return, and produce a thank-you note.
